Steep Slope Studio is a cultural facility which is owned by Yokohama city and managed operated by NPO artsplatform in cooperation with Yokohama city.
History of Steep Slope Studio

June 2006�@ As a part of an initiative of Yokohama city to form the Creative Core Areas, Yokohama city converted Oimatsu Kaikan, a former public wedding hall, into a base for creative activities in performing arts, and looked for private organizations which manage and operate the facility.
August 2006�@NPO Arts Network Japan and NPO ST Spot Yokohama were selected by Yokohama city to co-manage the facility.
October 23, 2006�@Steep Slope Studio opened.
May 9, 2007�@NPO artsplatform was established.
Management of Steep Slope Studio was transferred from a consortium by NPO Arts Network Japan and NPO ST Spot Yokohama to NPO artsplatform.

NPO artsplatform was established in May 2007. NPO artsplatform is an NPO which is engaged in administration and management of �gYokohama Arts Platform: Steep Slope Studio�h, aiming at developing human resources that contribute to performing arts, promoting international exchange, and offering opportunities of exchange between the local community and artists. As a platform that bridges arts and societies, NPO artsplatform supports artists and producers, and launches various projects to achieve creation of an enriched society.

Montly Art Café is a monthly event held at Steep Slope Studio newly opened in Yokohama on October 23, 2006. At this event, you will meet our resident artists and their peers. From exchanging ideas to experimenting new ways of expression. The aim of Monthly Art Café is to create a new art community through dialogues on arts, society, Japan and the world over a drink.

The guest of the memorable first Monthly Art Café is Mr. Christophe Slagmuylder, the new Artistic Director of Kunsten FESTIVAL des Arts from Belgium. Kunsten FESTIVAL des Arts is worldly known as a most forward-looking arts festival with its sharp eye for identifying young talented artists from all over the world ahead of any one else in the world. The Japanese artists who have been invited to this festival are Dumb Type and Saburo Teshigawara. Although it has been a long time since they last invited a Japanese artist, Kunsten FESTIVAL des Arts is expecting to have �gFive Days in March�h by Toshiki Okada (Chelfisch), who is also a resident artist at Steep Slope Studio, for the next festival in 2007.
How does the Artistic Director of Kunsten FESTIVAL des Arts see the potential influence of Okada�fs performance to the European art community? How will his drama be translated into another language at all? What does Okada see the youth of Japan and the world illustrated in his new production �gEnjoy�h which is now on at New National Theater, Tokyo? Please don�ft miss this great opportunity to witness honest and frank talk by the artist and the director of the same generation and to know about today�fs performing arts in the world. b�jwilling to participate in programs and events organized by Steep Slope Studio, including workshops, talk events, educational programs, open rehearsal, etc.

�S�DApplication Method
Application Period: January 4, 2007 – February 15, 2007
Delivery Date of Notice of Results: March 15, 2007
��The results will be delivered without prior announcement.

Video (in DVD or VHS, of two of your main full-scale pieces at most�j
Leaflet or pamphlet of your past performances (one each)

�U�DSelection and Notification
Application will be reviewed and the selection and the determination will be made by staff and resident artists at Steep Slope Studio.
��You will be contacted by Steep Slope Studio for confirmation of your application, where necessary.

�V�DSupports for the Resident Artists
�EResident artists are given priority for using studios at Steep Slope Studio without charge as their creation base during the period covered. (Long-term exclusive use of studios is limited.) �ECooperation in production and publicity (Details will be determined through discussion with the resident artist.)

�W�DActivities as Resident Artist

As a rule, resident artists will create their works at Steep Slope Studio during the covered period and are required to willingly participate in the events and programs organized by Steep Slope Studio.
�yRecording�z
Steep Slope Studio will record the works and the activities of the artists in our artist-in-residence program by photography or on video. Resident artists are requested to cooperate with recording. Copyright to the works belong to the artists, however Steep Slope Studio is entitled to use the copyright in cases where such copyright is to the pictures or videos recorded by us or where such copyright is used for the purpose of publicity in the public interest. Moreover, Steep Slope Studio and the parties who have been given consent of Steep Slope Studio are entitled to use such copyright without charge.
